Having an air conditioner in the hot summer heat is a must, but you have to make sure you install it properly. Window air conditioners can immediately become a safety hazard if you don’t place them in your window securely. The biggest fear is that they will fall out of the window and break something, or even worse, hurt someone. So you have to take steps to make sure they are going to stay right where they are.

When installing the air conditioner, the first thing you should do is make sure there’s no extreme tilt. If there is, that means you need to place something else underneath the back side of it to prop it up so it won’t slide. You can cut a piece of wood the proper thickness to prop it up, or  buy an AC bracket that can screw in and become a stable panel on the under side.

After you place the A/C so it is stable, pull out the sides to expand to the width of your window. You can then close the window on the A/C. It is smart to place brackets above the bottom window to keep the vibration from sliding it further open. If you have gaps between the top and bottom, there is foam insulation made specifically for that, which you can get at any hardware store.

It is one of those things you hate to do (or for many people, you don’t even know you have to do), but defrosting your refrigerator needs to take place before you can properly clean it. It is one of the single most important major appliances in your home so taking care of it is a must.

Most refrigerators today have an actual defrost setting but if yours doesn’t you can just turn the temperature down to zero. Take all of your food out of it and the freezer and store it in a cooler place. The basement is a good place to put it for now. If you have a mini-fridge somewhere else that will help too.

You’ll want to put a pan or bowl inside the fridge and underneath the freezer to catch dripping water. Let all the ice melt on its own, don’t chip at it. If you must make the process move quicker, use a hair dryer. Once your fridge is completely defrosted you can clean it out with a typical dishwashing soap solution and a sponge. You’ll be set to put everything back when you’re done and you’ll find your fridge working better than it was before!

Carrying home an air conditioner from a store is pretty terrible. If you are lucky enough to be able to throw it in the trunk of your car, it helps. But getting it to your car and from your car into your home can be horrible. They are deceivingly heavy major appliances and it is very easy to hurt yourself in the process of trying to move it from one place to another.

Buying an air conditioner online can save you the hassle of transport. This is especially helpful if you don’t have a car. That means that it is going to come right to your door, making installation a whole lot easier. What is more, you may just be able to get some help from the delivery guy in getting it where it needs to go. Don’t let him leave if you need it on the second floor and know you can’t do it yourself! Asking for a little help is a smart idea, just make sure you tip him well for the extra muscle!

So considering getting your air conditioner online. It’ll be a much easier way to get some fresh air to your home as quickly as possible.

Some big appliances are needed, this is true. You won’t get very far without a fridge or an oven. Those are standard kitchen staples. But when it comes to most cooking, you can actually avoid using too much of the oven and having to deal with the process of cleaning such a large appliance, if you have the right small appliances to compensate.

Toaster ovens are a great choice because instead of being limited by typical toasters, that only allow breads to be placed in the slots, you can actually heat up larger items with more ingredients in a toaster oven. Like for example, home made bagel pizzas.  They will also come out a lot better in a toaster oven than the microwave.

Convection ovens are another choice, which have far more settings and work closer to a regular oven but are a lot smaller. They are easier to clean and easier to use, especially if you have kids in the house who may be afraid of the oven (I know I was as a child).

Small appliances make clean up just a bit easier. So reserve the oven for larger meals or dishes that take bigger preparation and invest in smaller ones that will be easier to take care of.

Often people don’t consider the real repercussions of not having proper air in a household. It’s not just about being comfortable in the hot weather, it’s about being safe. Investing in cheap air conditioners that fit your budget can really save a life. It might not seem that extreme to you, but it is astonishing how many people become severely ill or even die because of heat related problems in the summer.

The bulk of many health issues related to heat occur in the very young and the elderly, so those cheap air conditioners are needed more than ever if you have very young or older members of the family in your household.  The biggest issue tends to be hyperthermia, which is when the body has trouble cooling you down to your normal temperature due to excessive exposure to heat. Dehydration combined with heat stroke can result in dizzyiness, fainting, nausea and low blood pressure.

It is important that everyone can live in a comfortable environment throughout the summer to prevent heat stroke and hyperthermia. These are conditions that are very serious and can cause even further complications. So make sure your home has A/C to keep things at a cool, safe temperature.

Many people love the start of summer because it means that barbecue season is here. It means it’s time to roll out the grill and get your steak, hot dog, burger, and kabobs on! It can be a real bummer on nights where it’s raining that you can’t go outside and use your grill.

That’s why you should think ahead when you buy a major kitchen appliance like a stove. If you know you love to grill and would love to be able to sear up a steak in the middle of a snow storm, don’t settle for any major appliance, get yourself a gas cook top with a built in grill! This is a great solution if you want to have a barbecue in the middle of December or just don’t feel like turning on the gas grill out on the patio.

You can not only cook on your grill but on the other range tops at the same time. This is great for multi-step meals and dinners that require more components than normal. This is definitely a must have for anyone who loves a good grilled shrimp kabob or just really wants a grilled pork chop when baked just won’t do.

When you think about cooking that frozen pizza, you might love the idea of putting it in the oven and getting it really golden and crisp. Everyone loves a great pizza crust. But, in the end, the process of waiting to heat up the oven and the time it takes to actually bake it can bump up your gas or electricity bill (depending on what kind of oven you have). But if you switch instead to the microwave, that pizza will be done in just a couple of minutes. It may not be perfect, but it’ll still be delicious.

Small appliances are a great way of saving money because they use less electricity in a shorter amount of time. If things can be done with smaller appliances, they should be. You might not see a huge change in just a day’s worth of switching over, but if you can keep it up for a month, you might find your saving some extra cash on the next utilities bill.

So consider the small appliances you have in your home before turning on the oven or using the large vacuum over the dust buster. You might find yourself spending a little less each month on bills.

Whatever major appliances you have in your home, they all need good care. You can’t neglect one for another just because you feel you use one more, or one is bigger and should be taken care of more often. They all need to be cleaned at least once a week. Your oven should be run through its full cleaning cycle at least once a month. Same goes for your dish washer. And refrigerators should be defrosted once every couple of months.

Putting in the time and effort to care for every major appliance in the home means they are going to last longer. You can be certain your toaster will keep doing its job properly, instead of burning the toast or not being able to heat up properly at all.  You don’t want to spend all this money on new items for the kitchen, only to find them breaking down prematurely because you hadn’t taken the time to care for them.

Sure, setting aside time to clean can be a pain. But once you do it, you’ll feel a lot better for it. And when everything continues to run as it should, you’ll be happy your money was well spent.

Summertime is notoriously the worst time for electricity bills. We start plugging in the fans and the cheap air conditioners  and our bills start going up.  But there’s a way to help deal with the problem. If the next time you look for appliances and you check for the Energy Star logo, you’ll be seeing a huge difference with your bill at the end of each summer month.

Keep in mind the number you were paying last year during the summer. When Energy Star appliances are used in the home, you will definitely see a cut from the previous summer months.  And the great thing is that all kinds of appliances are now carrying the logo, letting you know they are certified in using less energy over all. This brings down your bill and helps the environment, so it is a win-win situation for all.

If you’ve been thinking about changing some of your appliances over to Energy Star ones, now is the time to do it before the summer really hits. Start saving that money as soon as possible and put it to better use or into your savings.  It’ll really make a difference. A variety of brands carry the logo, so you’ll still have a great selection to choose from.

When someone moves into a new apartment in the hotter months, it may be smart to cater to that fact when buying them a housewarming gift. Everyone else may be giving them a microwave or a new set of martini  glasses that they may or may not ever use, but you can give them something so much more useful. Cheap air conditioners are the kind of gift that they will absolutely appreciate because once the temperatures really start to rise, they’ll realize how hot their apartment or new home can get.

Cheap air conditioners can run you a very affordable price, so you won’t feel as though you are spending too much and they won’t either. Have you ever been offered a gift you think probably cost just too much? You often don’t want to take it  because you feel bad. And you don’t want to be on the opposite end of that either. But air conditioners can really run great prices, especially if they are a window unit. So no one is going to turn it down, especially when they know how great it is going to be once they get settled. They’ll appreciate the cool air when it matters most and you’ll give the best gift out of everybody, hands down.
