Major Appliance No, you’re not dreaming. GE Appliances has finally invented the first refrigerator featuring a handy hot water dispenser, ideal for morning coffees, hot chocolates, or delicious afternoon teas. This major appliance also creates instant boiling water, which makes cooking pasta and soup much more convenient.  We’re proud to introduce GE Cafe Series ENERGY STAR – French Door Refrigerator, the first of its kind.

The new hot water dispenser allows filtered hot water within minutes. You can either choose from one of four preset temperature options, or customize the temperature when you need. When it is ready, you simply turn the knob and fill up your cups or bowls with hot water. This protective knob is child-proof, allowing extra safety and security when dealing with the boiling hot water that this machine can produce.

The four preset temperatures are as follows:

  • Warm – 90 degrees
  • Hot Cocoa – 150 degrees
  • Tea – 170 degrees
  • Soup – 185 degrees

These major appliances also produce purified cold water as well, which is tested and verified to remove 98% of five trace pharmaceuticals from water and ice. With the purchase of this new convenient refrigerator and hot water dispenser, you never have to worry about purchasing bottled water or Brita filters for your home ever again.

Major Appliance Shopping for the perfect freezer for your new kitchen can be quite a process when there are so many great models available on the market. However, we’ve included a few tips to help you in purchasing the perfect major appliance for your kitchen.

Size Matters!: Decide how much space you will need to refrigerate all of your perishable food and drinks. If you are living alone, you may opt for a smaller model. If living with a family of four, a larger model may help accommodate your needs.

Make a Blueprint for Your Kitchen: Before making any purchases, make a blueprint of what major appliances you need and where you should put them. Make sure to provide enough room so that you can easily open the refrigerator’s doors and maneuver around it.

Select the Features Your Need: Are you looking for a model that creates ice? How about crushes ice? Do you want your fridge to provide you with drinkable water as well? These are a few bonus features that you may or may not need.

Chest Freezer or Upright Freezer?:Lastly, you need to determine if you want a chest freezer or an upright freezer. A chest freezer will create more storage space for the money, but may take up more space in your kitchen. An upright freezer is a traditional freezer with vertical doors and shelves. However, these freezers are often smaller and more compact. It all depends on your personal preference.

Setting up your surround sound speakers takes a little bit of time, but the results make your living room sound just like the movie theater. We’ve included a few useful steps on properly setting up your major appliances and getting your sound just right!

Center Speaker: Although the center speaker may be optional when setting up your surround sound speakers, it will anchor any onscreen dialogue and will work as a seamless connection between your left and right speakers. It helps to keep all of the audio mostly balanced and natural. You should place your center speaker directly beneath your television.

Left and Right Speakers: For the best results when setting up your left and right speakers, try placing them at ear level. A little too low and it will feel like the sound is coming out of the ground. If you go too high, the sound may also be a bit off.

Subwoofers: The subwoofer handles all the lower bass frequencies in any movies or television shows that you watch. These speakers can go in the front, mid range, or back of your living room. It all depends on personal preference, although placing this major appliance in the back of the room will give you more a dynamic range.

Major AppliancesTired of spending close to $14.00 every time you go to a movie in the city? And that’s just the price of the ticket alone! Keep in mind you have to pay for transportation and popcorn as well. How about enjoying all of your favorite movies from the comfort of your own home instead? That’s right, save money on movie theater tickets by making your next major appliance purchase your very own personal home theater.

The first thing you will want to do is determine if your room will be large enough to fit a projection screen or not. If not, take the proper measurements to install a flatscreen, wall-mounted television. After you purchase your television, it’s time to get your seating arrangements in order. You can either fit a few couches and loveseats, or go all out and purchase comfortable theater seating. You may even want to throw in a popcorn machine as an added bonus!

Now it’s time for the sound. When shopping for major appliances for your home theater, you will want to take a look at several surround sound speaker options. Purchase the one you like the most and install it around your seating arrangements. To make things a bit easier, choose one location for all of your excess cables and outlets. This way, if you ever have a problem with your electronics, you will know where to fix it.

All that’s left is to heat up the popcorn, invite your friends over, and argue over watching a romantic comedy or an action flick!

Major Appliance A major appliance such as a vacuum cleaner can be extremely helpful in keeping your home or apartment clean and organized. However, even if you own a personal vacuum cleaner, you may not know some of the most helpful tips to clean both your hardwood and carpeted floors. Luckily for you, we’ve put together a few useful tips to help get rid of all of that dirt and grime hanging around your apartment.

Vacuuming Your Carpet: For areas where you have throw or area rugs, pick them up, shake them off, and store them aside until you are done vacuuming. Make sure to pick up larger debris and any materials that your vacuum will not be able to pick up. Since vacuums will not be able to clean the area between the edge of the wall and the carpet, it may be a good idea to first sweep out these crevices with a broom or duster.

Vacuuming Your Hardwood Floors: You will first want to check if there is a “hardwood” setting on your vacuum. This will help adjust the height of your vacuum so that it will pick up any dirt that is closer to the ground and possibly stuck to the hardwood floor. Make sure to concentrate cleaning efforts in areas where the most dirt will build up, such as near the front or back doors.

Vacuum cleaners are useful major appliances that will help keep your home looking spotless!

Unless you are still hording your extensive collections of Beta-Max tapes, we all know that some major appliances in the home video field do not survive competition well, just as Darwin intended. Yet for the past few years, DVD and Blu-ray players have lived together side by side. So, when looking to buy an entertainment upgrade this holiday season, it is helpful to know what exactly Blu-ray improves upon.

The confusion is partly because Blu-ray is so close to DVD. The players look the same, the discs look the same, and even the disc menus look similar. What Blu-ray has is larger storage capacity per disk, which allows for better image and sound quality overall. Does this make a difference if you’re watching Casablanca, though?

Actually, the answer is yes. When people talk about superior resolution, they just mean that the images you see on the screen are more detailed, with more contrast and richer colors. This is important when you are dealing with older films that substantially lose quality and become darker when they are transferred from a film print. So, whether you want to absorb every CGI eyebrow raise of Hulk during The Avengers, or Buster Keaton’s stone face during The General, Blu-ray might be the choice for the best entertainment-related Brooklyn appliances you can buy.

Thanks to Mother Nature, we have officially moved away from the outdoor grilling season–sure to bring a tear to every man’s eye. The grill is usually one of people’s favorite major appliances, or at least men’s favorite appliance. The textures, tastes and smells that accompany throwing dinner on the grill are hard to give up for the long winter season. Which begs the question, “Can you grill indoors?”

Grilling indoors with charcoal or propane can be dangerous and should be avoided. But, you can turn your stovetop into a grill by putting a grill pan on top of the burners. It just requires a few basic kitchen appliances and some know how:

  1. Place the grill pan on the stove and turn the heat to high. If your grill pan covers two burners, turn them both to high.
  2. Let the grill pan preheat for five to ten minutes.
  3. Apply oil to both sides of the food you are cooking. If using a cast iron grill, make sure it is well seasoned to prevent sticking.
  4. Place food on the grill and cook until char marks appear on the bottom. Turn the food and continue heating until thoroughly cooked (according to your recipe). To ensure your food is cooked fully, check with a thermometer.

Serve and enjoy the deliciousness of grilled food in the winter!

Hurricane Sandy left many people without power for days. In fact, thousands are still literally in the dark at this time. Along with the litany of other issues this brings to the surface, one question that arises out of this blackout is what to do with the food in your fridge. Like all other major appliances, your kitchen refrigerator needs electricity to run. And without electricity, it has not been running. Your food has been sitting there un-chilled for days. This begs the question: how long can food last in the fridge without power? Do you have to toss it all? Can some of it be salvaged?

The first thing to remember–even though it seems like common sense–is to NEVER taste food to see if it is safe!

Keeping the doors to the fridge and freezer closed is vital to keeping food safe. When the power goes out, keep the doors closed and if you do have to open them, find what you are looking for quickly. This will keep the coolness in and the heat out, your food safer and your kitchen appliance working longer.

Generally, if the temperature in the freezer reads 40 degrees or below, the food is safe. Anything else should be tossed. Simple as that.

Fall has arrived. The long dog days of summer have come and gone, as has our need for those window air conditioning units we have depended on all season. Lest you think you do not really need to remove the unit, know that leaving it in can actually make your home draftier in the winter months because of how they sit in the windows. That should deter you from opting out of the task! But, like most major appliances, care needs to be shown when removing these units from the window, especially if you hope to be able to reuse them next summer.

Here is a simple, step-by-step, guide to removing your window air conditioner.

  1.  Turn off the unit.
  2. Take the front cover, with the filter screen, off and set it aside.
  3. Remove the foam padding that surrounds the sides of your air conditioner. This might involve using the prying end of a hammer to loosen up some of the insulation, which can be thrown away.
  4. Lift the air conditioner up and out of the wall. Seek out help from a friend if you need it, otherwise risk injury. Wear work gloves while doing this.
  5. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the wooden base from the windowsill.
  6. Put the air conditioner and wooden window rest in storage.
  7. Replace the major appliance with a glass windowpane for the season.

Enjoy the toasty temperatures of your apartment all winter long!
